Racing Homing Pigeons with Larry Bellotti

  • Silt Historical Park 707 Orchard Ave. Silt United States (map)

Did you know that pigeons are the oldest domestic bird? Or that pigeon racing was introduced in the United States as a sport in 1875? Today there are over 15,000 registered lofts (aka coops) in the United States. Here locally the Grand Junction Racing Pigeon Club has members all across the Western Slope, from Delta to Gypsum!

Join us to meet Larry Bellotti, of the Grand Junction Racing Pigeon Club. He will be talking about the history of pigeon racing and will teach us how to get started with owning, caring for, and racing pigeons!

Larry has been actively involved in the sport for the last 10 years and has approximately 150 birds in his loft!

Please visit the Grand Junction Racing Pigeons website to learn more about what they do. They have great resources including this interesting link about Pigeons in Wartime: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_pigeon
